Product Introduction

Depart from your hotel and travel by comfortable business vehicle to one of Shanghai’s most artistic neighbourhoods: the Wukang Road–Anfu Road area. This is the heart of the Hengshan Road–Fuxing Road Historic Conservation Area, where old villas shaded by plane trees, former residences of famous figures and popular boutiques come together to create a distinctive urban atmosphere.

Your walk begins at the iconic Wukang Mansion. Shaped like a giant ship, this building is a classic work by Hungarian architect László Hudec and one of Shanghai’s city landmarks. You will then enter the Xuhui Old House Art Centre to learn about the past and present of Wukang Road through models and images. Next, pass by Ferguson Lane; beyond the archway is an elegant courtyard space with galleries, florists and cafés.

Continue onwards and pass the balcony of an old villa romantically known online as the “Romeo Balcony”. It is not actually Shakespeare’s former residence, but its architectural form and theatrical character have inspired countless imaginations. At this point, you may take a seat at a nearby speciality café and enjoy a relaxed coffee break, experiencing the everyday Shanghai habit of “talking about life in a café”.

After a short rest, travel by vehicle to Shangsheng Xinsuo. This stylish cultural community, converted from the century-old Columbia Country Club, preserves Spanish-style architecture, poolside corridors and the industrial traces of old factory buildings. Today, it brings together bookshops, galleries, designer boutiques and restaurants, where a sense of history and contemporary style coexist in a fascinating way.

Finally, stroll to Taikang Road, also known as Tianzifang, and weave through its winding lanes. Creative shops, art studios and authentic local snacks are hidden inside old shikumen houses, where everyday street life and artistic creativity create a distinctive charm. At the end of the tour, a private vehicle will take you back to your hotel.

Throughout the tour, a professional guide will accompany you with commentary, helping you understand the stories behind the architecture and appreciate the unique ease and elegance of Shanghai’s “plane tree district”.
