The best time to arrive is around 5 or 6 in the evening. While it is still light, stroll through the streets and lanes lined with white walls and dark-tiled roofs. Once the lights come on, the whole ancient town shifts into night-view mode. Yanyu Covered Bridge is the highlight of the night tour — every evening at 19:30, 20:00, 20:30 and 21:00, there is a “Night Tour God” light and shadow show. The lights are projected directly onto the 68-metre ancient bridge, with lotus flowers, dragonflies and koi fish moving across the bridge in sequence and changing with the rhythm of the music. During the light show, a thin layer of mist spreads across the water, making the whole bridge look as if it is floating in the clouds. The night tour by sculling boat is another major highlight — sit on the boat as it drifts along the river, with mist rolling over the water and lights diffusing through it, for an even more immersive and striking experience. The reflection of Xianghua Bridge and the lantern strings on Fenglai Bridge are excellent photo spots. There are also several popular check-in spots: recommended spots include Hanchun Bridge + Hanchun Square: lantern wall and prayer bells; the best viewing position for the fish lantern parade on the water; Dongshi Bonfire Market: market + cute pet interactions, with a relaxed atmosphere; handmade and intangible cultural heritage stalls are often available at weekends.
